How much cash can you carry?
There is no limit on the amount, the obligation is to declare rather than to stay below a cap. Declare JPY 1,000,000 or more on entry to Japan.

Required when the total exceeds ¥1,000,000 or its equivalent. The threshold falls to ¥100,000 if you are travelling to or from North Korea.
