How much cash can you carry?

There is no limit on the amount, the obligation is to declare rather than to stay below a cap. Declare USD 10,000 or more on entry to South Korea.

Below USD 10,000 in total means of payment, no permission or declaration is needed. Above it, report the amount on the Traveler Declaration Form and keep the Certificate of Foreign Currency Declaration you are given, it is what lets you take the money out again.

Taking cash out

USD 10,000

Reporting threshold. Carry what you like, declare above this.

Means of payment, foreign currency, Korean won notes or cashier's cheques, exceeding USD 10,000 in total must be declared on departure.

Failure to report is subject to fines or penalties.
